Love Eternal: Khal Drogo and Daenerys Stormborn

Khal loves Khaleesi 3

“Until the sun rises in west and sets in the east, until the rivers run dry and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves then you shall return to me, my sun and stars”

For the past year, I got hooked with the Game of Thrones series; its intrigues, actions, complicated plots, the character pile-ups, and the never-ending plot twists and killings. But amidst all that, there was one thing that got me hooked with my heart and soul.

The tragic love story of the Khal and Khaleesi of Vaes Dothrak.

I was so in love with their love story. Theirs was a story deserving of a happy ending but ended rather tragically; which endeared them more to me.

Khal Drogo was one of the greatest heroes a romantic story can get. He was an Alpha male, he was king. He was relentless, he was macho, and he was as good at it can get. He may all be that brawny and he may be a savage but he loved Daeny to the depths of the Earth. He said what he meant and meant what he said.

Daenerys Stormborn was a great heroine. At first she was your typical girl; shy, reluctant, mousy. But when she decided to make her Khal happy and became serious about her being the Khaleesi, she became determined, strong, and noble. She was scared and confounded but she learned to love Drogo to the true sense of the word.

And, as seen in a season 2 episode, they made a beautiful baby. Rhaego.

A brave king and a reluctant princess. They were an unusual pair that met in an unfortunate circumstance. She was sold and he bought her. She was taken rather brutally by her king-husband. But in the end, love found its way between their hearts and entwined their lives.

They have the best, the most tragic, and the most enduring love story in Game of Thrones. It’s just sad that Khal Drogo did not make it out of Season 01 Episode 10 alive. However, that was one of the reason why we now have a strong Khaleesi. A very determined Daenerys Stormborn with a growing legion and three powerful dragons.
